How to Get Rid of Flies in the Home
**NOTE: These instructions are for helping with an issue one it is present in the home. Please follow general food storage and home cleanliness guidelines to prevent flies from entering the unit in the first place.
Homemade Fly-Repellents:
- 1. Dish-Soap: take a shallow dish or small jar and fill with 0.5-1.0 inches of dish detergent (fruit “flavored” soaps are the best, such as apple or lemon). Add an inch of water as well
- a. If the flies aren’t attracted after 4-6 hours, add a drop or two of apple cider vinegar- it will attract the flies to the jar
- 2. Cayenne Pepper: Flies will stay away from the scent of cayenne pepper. Mix a little in a spray bottle with water.
- a. Spray the mixture in doorways, window sills and other cracks and corners where flies might they to come in
Outsmart Flies:
Fill a clear plastic bag halfway with water. Seal the bag and hang near windows and doors.
The way the bags and water reflect light will resemble a spider’s web, and flies always try to avoid those.
