How To Fix a Sticky Lock
HOW TO FIX A STICKY LOCK
**NOTE: In a pinch, you can use any oily substance in the lock to get it to work (vegetable oil spray, WD- 40, sewing machine oil, etc.). However this will eventually make the lock harder to open, so instead use GRAPHITE. (This can be purchased at any hardware or home improvement store and it is relatively inexpensive.)
- 1. Graphite comes in oils/sprays as well as powders. Once you’ve squeezed the tip of the tube or end of the nozzle into the key slot of the lock, squeeze it once or twice. (A little goes a longway.)
- 2. Put your key into the lock and slide it in and out a few times
- a. If the lock is still sticky, add a little more graphite
- 3. Squirt a little graphite on the latch as well (the part of the lock that comes out the edge of the door to lock to the door frame
